Amber: Invincible's Most MISUNDERSTOOD Character
THANK YOU to @KaiserNeko for collaborating on this video!
If you’re familiar with the discourse surrounding the Invincible TV series, you know that there is no character more controversial than Amber Bennett. The subject of dozens of RUclips videos and too many twitter threads to count, this character gets people HEATED. Which is surprising, Invincible is a series that features plenty of characters who LIVE in morally gray territory and some who are outright heinous in their actions. So why is the character who gets the MOST anger thrown her way… a teenage girl? Is that criticism warranted? While Amber certainly has flaws as a character, the hate thrown her way feels particularly dispropor...

How BoJack Horseman Explores Grief

If you've got deja vu, YES, this is an older video! But that video had terrible audio and some very ugly old borders I used to use. This is a re-recorded, remastered version with slightly improved editing. The Old Sugarman Place is my favorite episode of BoJack Horseman. This story comes on the heels of Sarah Lynn’s untimely death, at a point where the audience and BoJack are both grieving, and...

Maybe I was just too young to get them (I mean Nixon has been a recurring character the whole time) but the direct mentions of the modern things they're parodying takes me out of the episode so hard it actively damages the whole season for me. Like, talking directly about Covid, practically namedropping Dune saying Bitcon and Etherium and the whole Momazon name put me in a state I couldn't enjoy chunks of the episodes. The episodes where they didn't do that like All The Way Down and I Know What You Did Next Xmas were great so I hope they tone it down a lot in future.

"The Horse" from horsin' around is literally a horse with no name since he's only ever referred to as "the horse" and never given a proper name I may be reading too deep into it but i think if that was an intentional reason for that decision that was a really nice touch Sorry I'm late to the game on this video this is a new revelation I'm coming to

I'm not a neckbeard, so I don't get frothing at the mouth angry at fictional characters or worse at actors or more poignantly actresses playing them because I recognize that sometimes writers can just fuck up. To me it always seemed like there was just points A and B that the writers had no idea how to connect and we got the mess that we got. Amber dating Mark is point A, and them breaking up is point B, and they failed to write a convincing reason for it so they just half assed it. Partially I think they were just too afraid to make Mark seem more responsible for the relationship falling through. He's not really any degree in the wrong, but they could've made him at least a little bit. But it's also not unreasonable for somebody to want a partner who actually shows up and does things with them. So there doesn't have to be a villain, but they should've presented that argument on Amber's behalf. Because what she says isn't the most compelling way to argue her perspective.

Aang wasn't a bad father just one that had the most amount of work and stress on his shoulders ever, did he fall short at times most likely yes every parent does at times throughout their life that doesn't make them a bad parent. I'll give the new stuff a watch and see how it goes but I can't just be all excited with the way to many things have been when it comes to shows and movies since the Last Avatar series aired. I don't have the best trust in the creators after some of the stuff they did with Legend of Kora and other things they did when dealing with things that happened with it and to do with in it.

I love this episode, but that joke at the end of him being at the wrong funeral feels weird. I think the more appropriate ending would've been to reveal that Bojack is at his mother's funeral, but there is nobody else there, he was speaking to nobody. I think this would've fit perfectly, thematically speaking, because the whole speech is just Bojack's way of coping with his grief, not to actually communicate anything to an audience.

This isn't to excuse netflix, but adapting ATLA is near impossible. The source material was near perfect to begin with and it was already in a visual medium. If you stick with the source material too closely, then why watch the live-action adaptation at all. If you start making changes, they're almost certainly just be worse....or at the very least merely different. It's basically adapting LOTR but 10x harder. Really the only area I think the live action show could have tried genuinely improving on the show, is the Bato of the Water tribe episode. In the show Aang just comes off as an impulsive selfish kid, but if you think about it, he's lost literally everyone he's known, struggles with the guilt of it being his fault, and now he might be separated from his new found family while he's on a journey to save the world. On paper this has a lot of potential. Trauma, grief, guilt, loneliness, found family, betrayal, reconciliation. The episode goes through the motions, but it only has like 10 minutes to do it all. But because it's not a fan favorite episode cause it didn't really live up to it's potential, it never had a chance of being adapted.

It always makes me so upset whenever I see so much hate about Amber. Like immediately you can just see she's a young girl trying to make it in the world and the person that she cares about can't be there for her as much as she needs, like I was really rooting for them but there was honestly like not a large possibility that they could stay together long-term like Debbie and Nolan

I’m mainly just glad people stopped using race as a relevant factor in this discourse. It was so tiring hearing people try to defend Amber’s actions by saying well she’s black and you can’t have any legitimate criticisms of a black character without being racist. Honestly I think that stupid argument caused more controversy and division than anything else.

While that is not the message of Hollyhocks story, it's a great lesson to take. Pete told the prom story from the perspective of a person who actually wasn't that deeply invovled. With time, only the bad notes stayed and became more gruesome. If you want to avoid losing your loved ones, it's best that they find out your dirty laundry from you. While you cannot be 100% objective about what happened, its always better than getting your story told from someone who'll potentially have no interest in being accurate about the events. Just to remind. This does not justify what Bojack did. Hollyhock will most likely be better off without him

Nah. Amber is horrible. Like, are we just gonna ignore the whole "I guess we both been lied too." _That_ was the final nail in the coffin to me. The fact that this witch had the _audacity_ to compare Mark not telling her he was a super hero to Mark's dad whopping his ass across the globe is atrocious. It's entitled and it's narcissistic. That "moment of weakness" thing does not pan out when Amber _knew_ She knew Mark was a superhero. She knew Mark was trying his best to juggle his responsibilities with his relationship. But she chose to stay and she chose to give Mark a hard time. Amber and/or the writers don't get to have it both ways. Either she knew Mark was Invincible and had informed consent for weeks, or she didn't. She doesn't get to act betrayed. She doesn't get to yell at Mark for "leaving" when she knew damn well he just saved the lives of multiple people on campus. Including her own. That's why people called it gaslighting. Though, I think it's more just being a jerk about it. Cause it raises the questions on how long she knew. Even with the Soup Kitchen incident. She knew Mark almost died. That "he got hit by a bus." She literally cannot hold that against him. Once Amber said she knew for weeks, any and all sympathy I had died for her. Because she chose to stay. And this is not to say Mark was blameless. But this is why I can't stand Amber.
